Gloucester Docks Basin

|
|
This view is of Gloucester dock basin looking towards the lock
on the River Severn. The building on the left, now a popular antiques
centre, was formerly the Lock Warehouse, built in 1834, and owned
by J & C Strurge, Corn Merchants.
The original windows and cast-iron columns were a little too widely
spaced so additional columns were put in to strengthen the building
in 1877. The roof was replaced after damage from a fire which destroyed
the adjoining warehouse in 1917. The lock area is still very busy
with visitors to the antiques centre and small pleasure craft negotiating
their way to and from the River Severn.
