Gloucester Cathedral Tower

|
|
The tower of Gloucester Cathedral was built in about 1450 and was
based on the tower of Worcester Cathedral. The towers of Gloucester
and Great Malvern Priory are so alike that they have been attributed
to a single designer. The design is famous for its coronet of filigree
open-work, pinnacles and battlements. The tower soars to 225 feet,
and can be seen from many miles away.
In the photograph the contrast of the pale cream Cotswold stone
against the night sky captures the sheer beauty of the architecture.
Our picture was taken shortly after the cleaning and restoration
of the tower.
