The ceiling of the cloisters is renowned for it's beautiful fan
vaulting which was invented in Gloucester and later used in Kings
College Chapel and The Chapel Royal at Windsor. The earliest fan
vaulting known occurs in the East Walk and is thought to date from
sometime between 1351 and 1377.
The other walks were vaulted between 1381 and 1412 and are virtually
identical. The North Walk contains The Lavatorium at it's West end.
A stone trough originally carried water for the monks to wash. This
photograph conveys the peace and seclusion synonymous with Cathedral
Cloisters.
