Oil-seed rape - Coates church

|
|
Oil-seed rape is a common arable plant grown for its oil bearing
seeds and sometimes for fodder. Its flowers can turn whole areas
of the countryside a dazzling yellow with a pungent kale like smell.
Oil-seed rape is now the commonest casual member of the cabbage
family often self seeding on roadsides and field edges. It is a
favourite food plant of bees in spring.
This scene whilst reminiscent of The Mediterranean was actually
photographed near Cirencester in Gloucestershire. The tower of Coates
Church can be seen in the background.
