Bluebell woods at Highnam

Hyacinthoides non-scripta (Bluebell, Granfer Griggles, Cratae-Crows
Toes)
Bluebells grow in moist shady habitats, their bell shaped flowers
appearing from April to June. The colour of bluebells can range
from pure white through grey, lilac and pale blue to dark cobalt.
In this photograph the trunks of the silver birches are a perfect
compliment to the rich colour of the bluebells.
This picture was taken at the RSPB Reserve at Highnam Woods. Though
only three miles to the west of Gloucester City Centre, it is a
peaceful haven where nightingales can often be heard in spring.
