Upper and Lower Slaughter are two of the most photographed tourist spots in the Cotswolds. The slough (or marsh) from which the village derives its name has been tidied up so that the river Eye flows between grassy banks and picturesque cottages beneath a series of simple stone bridges.

At the western end of the village you can visit the old mill, built in the nineteenth century, and last used commercially in 1958. The pretty village church has a twelfth century arcade.

Our picture shows the village at its most tranquil, with the river Eye flowing lazily beneath the many bridges.
