Woodchester

Our photograph was taken early on a beautiful clear autumn morning
near the village of Woodchester, near Stroud.
The village is famous for the Woodchester Roman Villa which contains
over sixty four rooms of palacial proportions. Also uncovered was
the famous Orpheus pavement which is usually covered over to protect
it, but is periodically unearthed for the public to visit.
The villa was obviously high status and luxurious and spreads for
at least two hundred yards making it one of the biggest roman villas
in Britain. The famous pavement depicts the legend of Orpheus taming
the wild animals and is set within complex geometrical patterns.
