Westonbirt Arboretum near Tetbury has developed from a private collection established in 1829 by Robert Stayner Holford of Westonbirt House.

Westonbirt now contains one of the finest collections of trees and shrubs in the world and has now been designated The National Arboretum.

The collection covers an area of about 600 acres and contains a series of walks through glades of giant cedars, oaks, alder and maples. Flowering shrubs and trees include rhododendron, magnolia, azalea, camellia and lilac. The highlight of the year is undoubtably autumn in the Acer Glade which is ablaze with the scarlet, orange and gold of the Maples.

Our photograph captures the breathtaking beauty of autumn at Westonbirt.
